3 Steps to Unity
A unified vision is critical in order to create a great culture. Knowing what you believe in, the purpose of the organization, and what is expected on a day-to-day basis helps steer the ship toward a better culture.
My wife and business partner, Danica, and I have always had a clear vision for our company. That vision has morphed and become more clear as we have gained more experience. To be transparent, we don’t have all the answers, but I can share what we’ve learned. We’ve discovered three key steps to creating unity.
Step One: Write it down!
If it’s not written down, it’s not real. I meet many entrepreneurs who have been pulling their hair out trying to get their employees to understand their vision. To the entrepreneur, it’s so clear and so simple, however, employees are not inside your head. By writing your vision down, sharing it with others, and discussing it, a living legacy is created.
Step Two: Strategize
Vision precedes strategy. It seems logical, but many people try to create their strategy without having a distinct vision first. Once the vision is created, it’s time to create a tactical strategy focused on the outcome. Vision alone doesn’t drive results.
Step Three: Create short-term goals
Once the strategy is complete, thirty- and ninety-day goals help drive each area of the organization to row in the same direction at a fair pace. I wish I could tell you I learned this in my first five years of business. I’m just beginning to figure this out fifteen years later. I’m hoping someone reading this post can use this valuable information to achieve something great. Because in the end, that is what endures.
